LOOKING BACK AT ELYRIA Featured on Cleveland Public Radio
What a thrill to be invited out to the ideastream studios in Cleveland's Playhouse Square for an interview with WCPN's Dan Polletta about Looking Back at Elyria!
Here's a link to the station's website, where you can listen to the broadcast:
The piece is scheduled to air during a local break of NPR's "Morning Edition" Friday morning, Nov. 29, 2019, between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Not sure, but we're hoping there will be two plays, at 6:45 and 8:45.
WCLV, Cleveland's classical music radio station, will also air the piece at some point.

Marci Rich Receives All-Ohio Excellence in Journalism Award
CLEVELAND, OHIO — Freelance writer Marci Rich received the second-place award in the Best Freelance Writer in Ohio category at the All-Ohio Excellence in Journalism Awards, presented by the Press Club of Cleveland on Friday, June 7, 2019, at the House of Blues. The award honors her ongoing feature series for The Chronicle-Telegram (Elyria, Ohio), "Look Back, Elyria."
According to the Press Club, the organization received 801 entries from throughout Ohio, which were judged by Press Club members from across the United States, including journalists from Florida, Idaho, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Orange County, San Diego, San Francisco, Southeast Texas, Syracuse, and Western Pennsylvania.
In making the award to Rich, the judges wrote:
"Marci Rich takes her readers on a trip down memory lane with her colorful tales of Elyria's local history. From the women who worked in the budding telephone industry to a child's trip to the local corner store, Rich gives her readers the sense of being there. Rich takes that step back to another time when she describes the rise and demise of the local movie theaters as well as her childhood memories of the first trip to the library. Her description of Cascade Park and those who lovingly kept its inhabitants, the local bears, safe imparts a sense of innocence. Rich's love of her hometown shines throughout her writing."
This is the second year in a row that Rich received a top award in the Best Freelance Writer category.
A book based on her award-winning articles, Looking Back at Elyria: A Midwest City at Midcentury, is forthcoming from The History Press in November 2019.
